TRANSLATION SERVICES

Residence and visa documents

A residence file and a visa file are lists, and translation is only one line on them. e-İkamet screens and consulates name the foreign pages they want in Turkish, often as a notarized translation, with an apostille or a legalisation according to the issuing country. Asuman Aksoy prepares those pages from Fethiye, Muğla, between Turkish and Persian, Dari, Pashto or English. The provincial directorate, or the consulate, decides the application. A translated page is not a permit.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Applicants whose list mentions a foreign document.

Short-term, family, student and other residence categories do not share one list. Visa lists change with nationality and purpose. Start from the screen that has your name on it.

01 /

People filing through e-İkamet

The foreign-document note on many lists asks for a notarized Turkish translation, plus an apostille if the issuing country is a party, or approval by that country’s authorities and the authorised Turkish authorities if it is not. Your own application screen is the list that counts.

02 /

Families attaching civil records

Birth, marriage, custody and divorce pages are the usual foreign documents in a family file. Each may have its own stamp rule. A complete set of translations does not choose the permit category.

03 /

Students and long-stay applicants

A student file may need academic pages as well as civil ones. Those academic pages have their own service note. Here the question is what the migration list, not the university, asked to see.

04 /

Visa applicants before travel

A consulate’s supporting documents — employment letters, invitations, civil records — are whatever that mission lists for your nationality. TürkiyeRota does not lodge the visa and does not speak for the consulate.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

Pages that show up on these lists.

This is a map of pages people are asked to translate. It is not the official list. If your screen does not name a page, do not translate it “to be safe” without asking the office.

  • Passport bio page, only where the list wants a translation rather than the original
  • Birth record, including marginal notes, for a family or a civil-status attachment
  • Marriage record, and divorce or custody pages when the list asks for marital status or parental rights
  • Foreign criminal-record certificate, with its issue date
  • Population or family register extracts the list names
  • Student letter or enrolment page, when the migration file asks for it in Turkish and the university’s own copy is in another language
  • Invitation, employment or sponsor letter, when a visa or residence list says it must be read in Turkish
  • Proof of a foreign qualification, if this migration list asks for it — academic detail sits on the diploma page
  • Apostille or legalisation already on each foreign public document
  • The permit category and the province, because lists are not identical
  • A note of any page the screen says is already acceptable with an e-signature because Turkish authorities issued it

Address registrations, tax numbers, health insurance and biometric photos are often on the same official list and they are not translations. We will not pretend a translated sentence replaces them.

A THOUGHTFUL PROCESS

Follow the note on your screen.

The 2026 e-İkamet wording is specific, and it still leaves the sequence of a particular consulate or a particular Iranian document to be confirmed. We do not invent a desk the note does not name.

01—

Read your own row

Open the list for your permit type, or the consulate page for your visa. Copy the sentence that mentions translation, apostille or consular approval. That sentence is the brief.

02—

Sort party from non-party

If the document’s issuing country is on the HCCH table, the note’s apostille branch is the one to discuss. Iran and Afghanistan are not on the table as updated on 30 June 2026. Pakistan has been a party since 9 March 2023. The passport’s cover does not choose the branch. The document’s issuing country does.

03—

Legalise or apostille before translating, when the note says so

A missing stamp often means translating twice. Confirm the route with the issuing authority and, for a non-party, with the Turkish representation, before originals travel.

04—

Translate into the language the note names

That is usually Turkish, notarized when the note says notarized. English can help you read a page. It does not replace Turkish when the instruction says Turkish.

05—

Notary in Fethiye or where you can attend

The notarial act is separate from the translation and from the directorate’s appointment. Say whether you can come to a Fethiye notary.

06—

File with the directorate or the consulate

You attend their appointment with the set they described. TürkiyeRota does not approve, refuse or expedite a permit or a visa.

THREE DIFFERENT MARKS

What migration notes usually mean.

The note’s verbs are easy to blur together. On a residence file they point at different desks.

Sworn translation

The translator’s signed text. Some supporting letters need only this. A civil record on an e-İkamet list more often goes further and asks for the notary as well. Read the adjective in the note.

Notarized Turkish translation

This is the phrase the foreign-document note uses. It means a Turkish translation whose translator’s signature the notary has acted on. It is not produced by the oath alone, and it is not an apostille.

Apostille or the approval branch

Party countries: apostille on the public document, then the notarized Turkish translation if that is the note you are on. Non-parties, or a party document that never received an apostille: the approval route the note describes, including the consulate or embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs path it names. We do not invent a single counter for every Iranian or Afghan paper.

Health insurance, income evidence, a lease and a tax number sit on many residence lists and are outside translation. A visa refusal or a permit refusal is the authority’s decision even when every translation was done as asked.

WHERE IT IS USED

Residence desks and visa desks.

The province on a residence file can be Muğla, or it can be somewhere else. The translation is prepared in Fethiye either way. The appointment is theirs.

Short-term and other e-İkamet categories

The foreign civil-document note is the part that mentions translation. The rest of the list — address, insurance, means — is still yours to assemble. Permit types are not interchangeable because a translation exists.

Family files

Birth, marriage, divorce and custody pages are read for the relationship, not as a general biography. Translate the pages that prove the link the category asks about.

Student residence

The migration file may want Turkish versions of pages the university has already seen in another language. Check both lists. Satisfying the university does not tick the directorate’s row.

Visa applications

Consulates publish supporting-document lists by nationality and purpose. A sworn translation is useful only where that list asks for one. TürkiyeRota does not submit the visa.

COMMON MISTAKES

Files that reach the appointment incomplete.

Translation mistakes on residence files are usually mistakes of scope.

01 /

Translating pages the list does not ask for

A thick booklet of unrequested pages does not strengthen a file. It can also hide the one page the officer asked to see.

02 /

Bringing English where the note says Turkish

An English translation can be clear and still be the wrong language. If the note says notarized Turkish, English is not a substitute.

03 /

Using a criminal-record page the desk will call old

These certificates are often wanted recently issued. Translate the version you will actually file, not a certificate from a previous attempt.

04 /

Assuming the translator files the permit

We prepare the language the list described. The provincial directorate of migration management decides. A Fethiye address for the translator is not an appointment at the directorate.

PRACTICAL TIPS

Before you book the migration appointment.

The useful preparation is a comparison, not a larger stack of paper.

  • Keep a copy of the exact e-İkamet or consulate sentence that mentions translation, and send that sentence rather than a summary.
  • List each foreign document’s issuing country separately. A family file can contain a party country and a non-party country at the same time.
  • Apostille or legalise first when the note puts the stamp on the original.
  • Do not put the passport number in the WhatsApp chat. Say “passport bio page, country X, about one page”.
  • If you live in Fethiye or elsewhere in Muğla, say so. The notary step is local only if you want it local. The directorate’s slot is still theirs.
  • Re-read the list on the day you file. A status table and an e-İkamet row can change after a page like this was written.

TIMING

The directorate’s calendar is not ours.

We can talk about a window for the translation once we know how many foreign pages, which pairs, and whether each original already carries the stamp the note wants. That window does not move an e-İkamet appointment, a consulate slot, or an apostille queue in another country. A notarized translation still needs the notary’s own day in Fethiye or elsewhere. Nothing on this page is a processing time for a permit or a visa, and nothing on it is a fee.
