TRANSLATION SERVICES

Tourism and yacht documents

Fethiye, Göcek and the rest of this Muğla coast run on bookings, charters and boats. A marina, a charter company, an insurer or a notary sometimes needs a page in Turkish, or needs a Turkish page read in English, Persian, Dari or Pashto. Asuman Aksoy is based in Fethiye and translates those pages in the confirmed pairs. A translation does not replace a licence, a transit log, or a permission from the coast guard or the harbour master.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Guests, owners, agents and crew on this coast.

Most visitors never need a sworn translation. The pages below are for the moment a desk has asked for one, or two parties do not share a contract language.

01 /

Charter guests and owners

A charter party, a booking condition or an insurance schedule may need to be read before someone signs. If a version will govern, the contract should say which. We translate. We do not negotiate the hire.

02 /

Marinas and agents in Fethiye

A foreign guest’s document, a company page or a short agreement sometimes has to be shown to a Turkish notary, a bank or a counterparty. Say which desk asked. Many marina formalities want the original passport and no translation at all.

03 /

Crew and captains

A certificate of competency, a crew list or a radio ticket may need a sworn Turkish text when a specific office has asked. The translation does not renew the certificate and does not authorise anyone to operate a boat.

04 /

Buyers and sellers of a boat

A foreign registration or a bill of sale can be a written-translation job when a notary or a registry asks. It is not the same thing as an interpreter standing in a tapu or a notary appointment. Book that presence separately if the signing requires it.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

Papers that come up around the harbour.

Bring the page the desk named. A boat file can be enormous. The translation should be the part someone is about to read.

  • Charter party or hire contract, including the conditions and any inventory that the clause incorporates
  • Booking confirmation and house rules, when a guest must sign a Turkish text or a Turkish office must read a foreign one
  • Insurance schedule or claim page, for the insurer or the marina that asked
  • Boat registration or flag document, when a notary, a registry or a buyer has asked for a translation
  • Bill of sale or builder’s page, if it is part of the signing
  • Crew list, only where an authority or a charter has asked for it in another language
  • Certificate of competency, radio operator’s ticket or similar, when a named office wants a sworn text
  • Marina correspondence that has to be answered in a confirmed pair
  • Guest passport bio page, only if a notary or another desk asked for a translation rather than the original
  • Company pages of a foreign owning company, if the boat file has turned into a company file

Coast-guard filings, transit logs and harbour permissions are the authorities’ forms. Translating a covering letter does not submit them and does not grant permission to sail.

A THOUGHTFUL PROCESS

A harbour document, in the right order.

Seasonal pressure is real in Fethiye. It is still not a reason to translate the wrong page or to skip a stamp the notary wanted first.

01—

Name the desk and the boat

Marina, charter company, insurer, notary, or a foreign buyer. A sentence on what the boat is doing — a week’s charter, a sale, a crew change — stops the scope drifting.

02—

Check whether a translation is actually required

Many guest formalities stop at the original passport. If nobody has asked for a sworn text, say so. We would rather tell you not to order one.

03—

Set the pair and the pages

English–Turkish is the frequent pair on this coast. Persian, Dari and Pashto are equally confirmed, both directions. Count annexes and inventories.

04—

Translate the operative pages

Hire fee, duration, cancellation, insurance exclusions, names and registration numbers are carried as printed. A summary is a different product and only if you asked for a summary.

05—

Notary or interpreter, if there is a signing

A written booklet does not put a person in the room. If a Fethiye notary wants an interpreter as well as a text, that is a second booking with a date.

06—

You deal with the authority

Harbour master, coast guard, marina and insurer keep their own decisions. TürkiyeRota does not clear a boat to sail.

THREE DIFFERENT MARKS

What a yacht file usually needs — and what it does not.

Most of these pages are private commercial documents. The three marks still get confused, especially when a boat is also a company asset.

Sworn translation

The right request when a notary, an insurer or a counterparty wants a signed rendering of a charter, a registration or a certificate. It is the translator’s text, from a translator sworn before a Turkish notary, working in Fethiye.

Notarized translation

Add this only if that notary or that authority asked for the notary’s act on the signature. It does not make a charter seaworthy, and it is a separate appointment on the notary’s calendar.

Apostille

Relevant if a public registration or a notarial act must be shown in another convention country, or a foreign public document must enter a Turkish file. A private charter is not apostilled merely by being important. Iran and Afghanistan are outside the June 2026 HCCH table. Pakistan is a party, since March 2023. Confirm the row on the day.

Nothing on this page is maritime legal advice, an instruction to a captain, or a statement that a boat is entitled to a berth, a flag or a departure. Those decisions belong to the owner, the master and the authorities.

WHERE IT IS USED

Along the Fethiye coast.

The work is local in the sense that the translator is here. The reader of the page may be a marina five minutes away or a buyer in another country.

Charter and booking desks

Guests who do not read Turkish, and owners who do not read the guest’s language, use a written translation to see what they are about to sign. The signed contract, not the translation, is the agreement, unless the contract says otherwise.

Marinas and insurers

A claim or a berth file may ask for a foreign insurance page or a registration in Turkish. The marina’s safety rules and the insurer’s exclusions still apply in the form they issued.

Notaries

A sale or a power of attorney about a boat can require a sworn text, an interpreter, or both. Ask the notary which. Fethiye notaries keep their own appointments.

Crew certificates

A competency or radio certificate is evidence of a qualification only in the form the issuing body gave it. A Turkish rendering helps a local reader. It is not a Turkish licence.

COMMON MISTAKES

Harbour files that go wrong.

The season moves quickly. These are the shortcuts that bounce.

01 /

Treating a charter as a title

A hire contract is not a registration and not a tapu. Translating it does not move ownership. A sale is a different set of pages.

02 /

Translating every guest passport

Do this only if a notary or another named desk asked. A stack of sworn passports is not a marina requirement by default.

03 /

Assuming a translation clears the boat

Departure, cruising permits and coast-guard matters are official decisions. A well-translated letter does not obtain them.

04 /

Booking only the text when the notary wants a person

If the party does not speak Turkish, the notary may want an interpreter present. That is not included in the written job. Check before the signing morning.

PRACTICAL TIPS

Before the Friday departure.

Useful on this coast, and still not a promise to work overnight.

  • Say the date the document has to be read, and treat it as a wish until we confirm a window.
  • Include inventories and cancellation clauses. They are where charter disputes actually live.
  • Keep registration numbers and boat names untranslated, and spell them as on the flag document.
  • Ask the marina whether the original passport is enough before you order a translation.
  • If a foreign owning company is involved, look at the company-document page as well. A boat file and a company file are easy to tangle.
  • For a meeting at the boat or the notary, book interpreting with the place and the hour, not only the PDF.

TIMING

The season does not set the fee.

A one-page booking and a full charter with inventories are different jobs, and a Friday departure does not by itself make either of them immediate. Describe the length, the pair and whether a Fethiye notary must see the signature afterwards. We will say what window is honest. That window is not a berth, not a coast-guard slot, and not a number of hours promised on this page. No price is listed here either.
