Diplomas and transcripts

A diploma proves that a qualification was awarded. A transcript shows how it was earned. Turkish universities, and the Council of Higher Education when equivalence is the goal, often want both in a language they named, sometimes with an apostille or a consular stamp already on the original. Asuman Aksoy translates these pages from Fethiye between Turkish and Persian, Dari, Pashto or English, in both directions. The admissions office, not the translator, decides what is enough.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Applicants, graduates, and anyone facing an equivalence file.

University admission and YÖK denklik are different procedures. A translation prepared for one is not automatically the file for the other.

01 /

International applicants

An international office may ask for a sworn or notarized Turkish or English translation of the diploma and the transcript, and sometimes of course descriptions. Read that year’s page for your programme. Lists are not uniform across Türkiye.

02 /

Equivalence (denklik) applicants

Recognition of a foreign higher-education qualification is handled by the Council of Higher Education. Its notes describe the apostille, between convention parties, as the approval used on diplomas and transcripts. The current portal checklist is the one that counts.

03 /

Students already in Türkiye

A transfer, a graduate application or a professional chamber can ask for the same pages again, sometimes in a different language from the one the first university accepted. Do not assume the old booklet still matches.

04 /

Holders of Iranian, Afghan or Pakistani qualifications

Persian, Dari and Pashto academic documents are translated with Turkish as separate pairs. Iran and Afghanistan are outside the convention on the June 2026 table, so the stamp is a legalisation question. Pakistan can use the apostille branch where the document qualifies.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

The academic set, line by line.

Translate the pages the institution named. Extra pages are not a stronger application, and missing pages are a common reason a file is sent back.

  • Diploma, degree certificate or graduation certificate, including the cover and any stamp page
  • Full transcript for every year the office asked about, not only the final term
  • Grading scale or explanatory note, if it is a separate page and the office wants it read
  • Course descriptions or syllabi, only when the list names them
  • Preparatory-year or language-of-instruction letter, if the university asked how the programme was taught
  • Previous-name or name-change evidence, when the diploma and the passport do not match
  • Apostille or consular legalisation already on the original, so it can be reflected rather than ignored
  • Certified copy, if the office accepts a copy and you will not send the original
  • The programme, the university and the intake you are aiming at
  • Whether the target text is Turkish, English, or both — some offices ask for one, some for each

A school-leaving certificate and a university diploma are different documents. Say which one you hold. Do not attach the scans to the first WhatsApp message.

A THOUGHTFUL PROCESS

Translate after the list, not before it.

Academic files are often translated twice because the stamp was still missing, or because the transcript was left out of a diploma-only job.

01—

Read the current list

Open the international-office page or the equivalence portal for your case. Note the language, whether it says sworn or notarized, and whether the original must already carry an apostille or a consular stamp.

02—

Separate admission from equivalence

A university can admit you on its own evidence. Equivalence is a later, different file if you need the qualification recognised. Tell us which one you are building today.

03—

Set the pair and the pages

We confirm Persian, Dari, Pashto or English with Turkish, in the direction the list wants, and we count diploma pages separately from transcript pages.

04—

Translate after the foreign stamp, if the list says so

When the original must be apostilled or legalised first, the translation should see that stamp. Doing the booklet earlier leaves the stamp outside the text the officer compares.

05—

Notary, if the list uses that word

“Noter onaylı” is the notary’s act. It can be done with a notary in Fethiye or another notary you can reach. It is quoted separately because the notary sets that fee.

06—

File with the institution

You submit. The university or the Council decides. TürkiyeRota does not lodge the equivalence application for you and does not promise a place or a recognition.

THREE DIFFERENT MARKS

How the three marks land on a diploma.

Equivalence notes and university pages use these words side by side. They are not synonyms.

Sworn translation

The translator’s signed text of the diploma or the transcript. Some universities accept it. Others go on to require the notary. The word on your checklist wins.

Notarized translation

The notary’s act on the translator’s signature, not a review of your grades. It is common on files that will sit in a public office. It does not apostille the diploma.

Apostille on the original

Between convention parties, this is the approval those equivalence notes describe for a foreign public diploma or transcript. It is obtained in the issuing country. It does not translate the courses. From Iran or Afghanistan, ask about legalisation instead of hunting for an apostille that the convention does not provide there.

Course titles are translated, not re-mapped onto a Turkish programme. A translation does not say that a module equals a module at a Turkish university. That comparison, where it happens at all, belongs to the institution.

WHERE IT IS USED

Who reads an academic translation.

Take the page to the reader who asked for it. A booklet made for a different reader may be the wrong language or the wrong stamp.

University admission

International offices use the diploma and transcript to judge eligibility, alongside exams and language scores they set themselves. Comparing programmes is a separate conversation from translating the pages.

YÖK equivalence

The Council’s process is for recognition of a completed foreign higher-education qualification. It has its own portal and its own evidence list. Admission to a Turkish programme does not silently complete that process.

Graduate school and transfers

A master’s office may want the transcript in more detail than the bachelor’s office did, including failed courses and the grading key. Send the full record the new office named.

Employers and professional bodies

A workplace or a chamber may want a Turkish text of the diploma and nothing else, or the opposite. Ask. Do not recycle a denklik set into a job file without checking.

COMMON MISTAKES

Academic files that stall.

These are the repeats we see, described so you can avoid the second invoice.

01 /

Translating the diploma and forgetting the transcript

Many lists want both. A beautiful diploma booklet with no course record is an incomplete answer to a question that had two parts.

02 /

Translating before the apostille or the consular stamp

If the list wants the stamp on the original first, the translation has to include that stamp. The other order often means translating again.

03 /

Assuming denklik and admission are one checklist

They are published by different bodies. A page that satisfies an international office can still be the wrong shape for equivalence, and the reverse is also true.

04 /

Smoothing over a name that changed

Marriage, transliteration or a passport renewal can split the name. The translation should show the name on the diploma. Bring the evidence the office asked for, rather than editing the diploma into the passport.

PRACTICAL TIPS

A transcript an officer can follow.

Academic pages are dense. The practical points are simple.

  • Ask the institution whether it wants Turkish, English, or both, and keep that answer with the scan.
  • Include the grading scale if it is not printed on the transcript itself.
  • Count every semester. A “summary transcript” is a different document from the full one.
  • If the diploma is still at a foreign ministry for legalisation, wait and translate the stamped original unless the office has agreed to a different order.
  • Keep the untranslated original. You will almost always be asked to show it.
  • For programme choice itself, the education consultancy page is the right next read. This page is only the language of the documents.

TIMING

Transcripts take the time their length takes.

A two-page diploma and a forty-page transcript are not the same plan. Course lists, handwritten notes and a missing grading key all change the work. We agree a window once we know the page count, the pair and whether a notary in Fethiye or elsewhere must sign after the translation. Application deadlines belong to the university. We do not promise to meet a portal’s closing hour, and we do not quote a fixed number of days or a fee on this page.
